I heard someone say yesterday that Psalm 91:1 is our emergency call to God. It is 9-1-1. Get it? That’s why in these days when the world is on a lock down while a pestilence stalks in darkness, we need to pull it out and raise it up to God! “He that dwells in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.” And today we are in Psalm 91:11. Its 911 as well, but with an extra 1! These are the “EMT” workers that come zipping out of the heavens when the 9=1=1call comes in. Psalm 91:11 says;” For He shall  give His angels charge concerning thee, to . keep thee in all thy ways.” This verse has become my most-prayed verse of all in recent years. I pray it almost daily. I pray it over my school bus “Lord, give your angels charge concerning this bus, and concerning me, and concerning all the kids that would ride on it today.” I pray it over my family, especially those, like my son who live so far away. “Lord, give your angels charge concerning my son, my husband as he works in a prison, my grandchildren at school today..’ and such. So what is an angel? The Bible has a lot to say about angels. They are mentioned continually in the Bible. Are they cute, chubby little babies with gilded arrows? Floating on clouds? I cant say such angels do not exist, but the ones I read about in the Bible are described as “Mighty,” many times. Psalm 103:20 says “Bless the Lord, ye His angels, that Mighty in strength, that do His commandments, Obeying the voice of His word.” Are angels the souls of departed saints? Nope. The Bible draws a clear distinction between men and angels. In fact, it depicts angels in 1Peter 12 as desiring to look into the gospel which is preached to us. They are fascinated by Gods love for us. I admit, these spirits, created by God are largely mysterious and ninja-like! Yet we see them throughout the Bible rescuing folks and coming with messenges. When Peter was locked up in a prison cell between two gurads, in Acts 12, expecting to diehe recounts that “NOw an angel of the Lord stood by Him and a light shone in the prison; and he struck Peter on the side and raised him up, saying, “Hey dude! Get up. Lets go. Quick!”  Peter woke up all groggy thinking he was having a pretty cool dream. “Get dressed. get your shoes on.” The angel told him. “Ok, now your jacket.” so Peter obliged and followed the angel right out of the prison. A great big iron door opened… demonstarting angels have super powers. Peter just followed that angel down the street until His night vsitor dissapeared. Somewhere in there Peter was like. “Whoa. That was real! I am free!” Do we have a guardian angel? This idea comes from what Jesus told us about angels in Matthew 18:10 “See that you do not despise one of these little ones. For I tell you that theier angels in heaven always see the face of my Father in heaven.”      I guess I would have to deduce fro that we do have angels assigned to us. Maybe more than one. And they genuinely care about children. Oh, and they tell on us if we treat a child poorly! So be nice to kids! I have a weird story. I admit now, I know its weird. But I want to tell you about a time God showed me how angels minister to the saints. I was visiting the Kansas City House of prayer for ten days. That is a place you can find online where worship and prayer come before God 24-7 and have for at least 25 years. I was spending as much time as I could just being in Gods presence, worshipping, praying, reading my Bible, and attending classes. Such an atmosphere combined with my 10 days of devotion caused the  heavenly kingdom to become as real to me at times as earth! On my last day I began to have a sense of angels in the prayer room. I did not see them physically, but I seemed to be aware of them and knew what they were doing. I “saw” with this spiritual insight, as angels touched the vocal chords of singers to assist thier ability to keeo singing when they were weary, I saw them floating and flying to worship along with us. Some stood near people as they prayed, assisting prayers and some  touched  others for physical healing. They were having fun too. I  saw an angel pretend to drum with the drummer, and it seemed he and some pals were totally amused and fell laughing at this. But what I remember most was when the music turned to a song about Jesus shed blood and sacrifice for us on the cross. Then it seemed all the angels hushed, and stood at attention with awe and wonder. I believe they cried. Not tears the way humans do, but from a deep place within them. These beings who behold the face of God are more connected and amazed by the grace of God given to us through Jesus than us, the recipients of such grace are! I really did begin to think I was starting to grow crazy and imagine things! You may be thinking that right now and I dont blame you! I had to get out of that prayer room!  I still remember going outside and trying to calm down and shake these images out of my mind! It took a little while. That night during a prayer session at the house I stayed up, the hostess looked at me somberly and stated “God is telling me you’ve been seeing angels. And that it’s ok.” I was so glad she said that! Through the years, it is clear to me there is an angel or two hanging out and continuing to do Gods bidding.  I bet you’ve experienced a rescue or a “Coincidence” that can only be attributed to an angel. A sudden change of mind that kept you from danger. Turning a page in your Bible to exactly the verse you need to read that day.  Taking the car in for an oil change and hearing “Its a miracle your ti-rod didnt break before this!” We do not command the angels. God commands them. They do HIS bidding, not ours. But Psalm 91:11 tells us “He SHALL give his angels charge concerning you.” This is another promise to hold onto and claim and trust. Right now, as COronavirus wanders the streets looking for a victim, angels have charge concerning YOU! I am nowhere near done talking about angels and sharing a fewstories of angels at work in the world today. Good thing verse 12 goes on to say yet more about these mighty magnificent messengers of God. Come back next time. Go to spotify and follow this podcast to be sure and hear more about angels.
